This spring, five of our students will graduate from the Adolescent Program. The entire Greenspring Montessori School community wishes these wonderful young men and women all the best as they go on to high school. Congratulations to Elise, Hiya, James, Liam, and Meritt!
Meritt is really excited about going to high school! He chose Gilman School for their art program and rich writing program.
He says he will always remember traveling as a group to Chicago and getting to explore the city through last year’s Adolescent Program Odyssey Trip. He has really enjoyed “seeing how all of the classroom cycles have come together over a common theme” at Greenspring Montessori, and he appreciates “that everyone has formed their own opinions and learned to value those opinions.”
Meritt says he will miss the size of our school the most. Gilman’s campus is much larger than ours, and he will have to get used to a bigger group of people and the size of the campus.
His proudest memory is of making his first movie while here at school. Meritt made a movie about Stratham, New Hampshire while using a new video editing program, and has learned a great deal about making movies.
Liam is looking forward to the larger class sizes in high school, as well as to being with some of his old friends again and the opportunity to attend different classes.
He has enjoyed “the level of interactivity between the teachers and the students” here at Greenspring Montessori. Liam has found the work load and tests occasionally challenging, especially when the work load increased.
Going to Chicago and volunteering at the Lincoln Park Community Center is something Liam will always remember. Liam says he will miss his teachers and classmates.
James is excited about going to high school and is looking forward to making new friends and taking on the responsibilities that being in high school bring.
James has really liked “all the teachers I’ve had and the sense of community” at Greenspring Montessori. He has also appreciated the way the teachers would go out of their way to help if you didn’t understand something.
James says he will always remember the Upper Elementary camping trip and the Adventure Trip last year to Chicago. He says he will miss everything about our school.
Hiya is looking forward to being in a bigger and different school environment. She has been in Montessori since she was a Toddler, and is excited about the change. She is confident about transitioning to a traditional environment. She feels prepared because she did a lot of research and shadowing at high schools.
Hiya says she has enjoyed the hands-on system of learning and actually getting to participate in what she was learning at Greenspring Montessori. She values taking different approaches to her education.
Hiya talks about her time here: “I lost all my baby teeth here! I love just walking around campus, feeling like this is my home because I know this place.”
Elise is most looking forward to the opportunity to take different classes and make new friends in high school.
Elise has most enjoyed her team-building retreat weeks spent at the Claggett Center over the two years she’s been in the Adolescent Program at Greenspring Montessori. Spending time with her classmates there, getting to climb the rock wall and swinging on the zip line are her favorite memories.
Elise has been attending our school since she was 2 years old and says that “learning various social aspects have helped me treat others with kindness.” She says she will “miss the tightly wound friendships I have made, but I will greet the larger amount of people with an open mind.”
