Hello and Welcome to the Maryland Center for Montessori Studies!
The Maryland Center for Montessori Studies (MCMS) is operated by the Montessori Society of Central Maryland, Inc., a non-profit organization founded to further the teaching principles and philosophy of Dr. Maria Montessori. Successful completion of the Early Childhood Teacher Certification Program results in teacher certification by the American Montessori Society. MCMS is affiliated with the American Montessori Society (AMS), accredited by the Montessori Accreditation Council for Teacher Education (MACTE) and approved by the Maryland Higher Education Commission.
The main goal of the MCMS Early Childhood Teacher Certification Program is to help interested individuals become effective Montessori teachers. The program focuses on the spiritual preparation of teachers as well as on the importance of the prepared environment. We hope to instill in students a deep respect for children and a sensitivity to their inner needs and styles of learning.
We are in the process of restructuring our program to a summer coursework model. Our next cohort of student teachers will begin in the summer of 2016. More information will be available about the new program in the fall of 2015.
In the meantime, if you have any questions about the program, please contact Stefanie Penn, our program coordinator at email@example.com. We look forward to talking with you about your interest in Montessori Education and desire to become a Montessori teacher of young children!
